Do I Qualify?
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- The claimant must require the “aid and attendance” of another person on a regular basis and be unable to protect themselves from the daily hazards of the environment. This might include, but is not limited to, issues regarding mobility, dressing, memory issues, communication, social interaction and psychiatric impairments. Only a physician may complete the required Medical Statement for Consideration of Aid & Attendance. (See FAQ page for further clarification).
- The claimant must be over the age of 65 or totally and permanently disabled.
- The veteran must have served at least 90 days of active duty with only 1 day during a time of war. (See Wartime Periods).
- Any discharge other than dishonorable.
DVA OFFICIAL WARTIME PERIODS
- World War II-December 7, 1941 through December 31, 1946.
- Korean Conflic t- June 27, 1950 through January 31, 1955.
- Vietnam Era*- August 5, 1964 through May 7, 1975.
- Persian Gulf War - August 2, 1990 through a date to be set by law or Presidential Proclamation.
*Eligibility may apply to veterans who were in Vietnam prior to August 5, 1964.
BENEFIT AWARDS
- A veteran with a dependent can receive up to $1,949.00 per month.
- A veteran can receive up to $1,644.00 per month.
- A surviving spouse can receive up to $1,056.00 per month.
